SAE and the Evolved Packet Core (eBook)

It probably has to do with the fact that the book is organized very well, and has an excellent index. I have turned to this book over and over again for my questions, and the book has never really disappointed me. But for understanding "straightforward" is anything straightforward in cellular communications? Finally a good book that explains the mobile packet core unlike many others which focus heavily on the radio aspect.

The book focuses on the system level or end-end perspective which is quite helpful. To begin with, the concepts and the rationale behind the design of EPC are covered, before delving deep into topics like QoS, Bearer etc. A must-have reference for anyone working on the EPC solutions. Though a bit light in its treatments of certain subjects, especially charging and billing, and having a few errors here and there, "SAE and the Evolved Packet Core" is a valuable addition to the library of anyone intent on understanding the LTE core network.

It's particularly well organized and the references are complete.

The treatment of the Diameter protocol as it exists at work in the EPC, and the notions surrounding QoS are especially helpful. Good broad coverage and decent depth. The primary reason i like this book is that it provides a condensed view of the 3gpp specifications in areas starting from LTE basics session and mobility management to QOS, Security and even a neat chapter on DNS Selection functions tucked in.

When you are looking at hundreds of pages of 3gpp specifications like But why in the name of sweet Kindle Edition. Excellent material.
